Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

I recently went back to my hometown for a long weekend to be with my sister as she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. I was gone for three nights, the longest I’ve been away from my new family since I’ve been married. (I wonder how long it will be before I stop calling them “my new family” and just “my family”?)

As I always do before I leave for an overnight trip, I took the time to write out some post-it notes for Tim to discover in my absence. But this time I wrote out a little post-it “good night” note for each of the kids to discover under her/his respective pillows.

Well, apparently Ana LOVED it. (And apparently Yoseph fell asleep without moving his pillow, so Ana snuck in and read his while he slept and he found the note the next morning. Ha!)

Not only is her note still next to her bed, but I was greeted with a welcome home note of my own on our infamous chalkboard wall.

note from Ana

“We misst you Molly! by Ana”

It was a great reminder to me that Ana, like her dad, feels especially loved by words of affirmation. We all need them, but when you discern what one’s love language is and make an extra effort to use that language, it helps him/her feel even more loved.
