A Literal Interpretation

A new development in our household is a second child who wears glasses. A new learning opportunity for me is to remember to remind him to put on his glasses. Today we were two miles away from the house for a day full of spring break activity when I looked in the rear view mirror and realized he was sans glasses. Sigh. We turned around and went back home to get them. I parked in the driveway and instructed him to go in and get them and, “Remember to close the door!”

When we came home several hours later, I was surprised to see the door to my office closed. I asked Tim why he closed it. He responded that when he came home, he was confounded to find all of the bedroom and bathroom doors were closed. Only then did I put it together…he had closed all of the doors. My intention was that he not leave the door between the house and the garage open for the third time in 24 hours. But he took my instruction very literally. I was doubled over laughing in the hallway as I tried to explain this to Tim.

Oh, Yoseph. You got me again.
